Does this Access Point support roaming?
We want to buy 3 of theses in standalone mode and are wondering if a user moves throughout an area, if they will roam seamlessly from one AP to the other. I did not see any documentation on it so just curious.

Also, is the Cisco Configuration Assistant easy to use? Does anyone have a demo or know where I could download it now to see how it works?

Thanks!

Weirdest thing:

We are trying to register one 1522 Mesh AP (the one with a Cable Modem inside) to a controller using the lastest mesh image. Here is the thing:

For some reasong, the AP was previously associated to a different Controller, (lwapp commands disabled), despite being brand new and just got out of the box. So we are using some simple scenario where the AP is directly connected to a switch and the controller.

The controller is configured also as a DHCP server, and the AP does gets an IP.. BUT, it cannt ping neither the gateway (the switch) or the Controller. If it gets the DHCP info I guess there is connectivity between AP and WLC, but how come after gettint an IP address it cant ping and obivously it cant join the WLC.

Anyone with a tip or some orientation?

thanks in advance!

I am trying to install a AIR-BR1310G wireless link between two buildings. I configured the setup in a lab and had everything functioning. Shipped it to the client who is now trying to install it. The radio link is up, but we are having issues with the remote ethernet connection.

The root bridge is connnected to a WS-C3560G-24TS (core) switch. The port is setup as a trunk with a native vlan of 2 (our management vlan).

Core SW
=======
interface GigabitEthernet0/21
description TRUNK: 100BaseT - Wireless WAN Bld 6 & 5 (10.1.2.65-68)
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 2
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,20
switchport mode trunk

The root bridge is then setup with a .2 interface on the radio and ethernet. The same is on the other non-root bridge radio.

Both Radios
===========
interface Dot11Radio0
no ip address
no ip route-cache
!
encryption vlan 2 [snip]
!
ssid [snip]
!
antenna transmit right
antenna receive right
antenna gain 10
speed basic-1.0 basic-2.0 basic-5.5 basic-11.0 basic-6.0 basic-9.0 basic-12.0
basic-18.0 basic-24.0 basic-36.0 basic-48.0 basic-54.0
power local 5
power client 5

!
interface FastEthernet0.2
encapsulation dot1Q 2 native
no ip route-cache
bridge-group 1
bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled

The wireless link is fine and I can reach both radios from the core side.

The problem is the remote bridge's ethernet link. The radio is connected to the power injector via 2-RG6 Quad Shield cable (Cisco recommmended Belden product). We are trying to connect a WS-C2960-8TC-L switch (has auto MDI/MDI-X ports).

Remote Switch Port Configs
===========================
interface FastEthernet0/7
description 100BaseTX to Wireless for Bld 5: r1-swi-cor01
switchport mode trunk
!
interface FastEthernet0/8
description 100BaseTX to Wireless for Bld 1: r1-swi-cor01
switchport trunk native vlan 2
switchport mode trunk

But regardless of what config (trunk - port 7, trunk with native 2 - port 8, AND EVEN WITH NO CABLE CONNECTED AT ALL TO THE PI) the non-root bridge always shows the FastEthernet 0 as:

FastEthernet0 is up, line protocol is down

Never Line UP / Protocol UP (Up/Up) nor
Line DOWN / Protocol UP or Down (Down/x).

Q1 - Because of the coax link between the PI and the radio, does it always show the FastEthernet status as UP? In other words, even with no cable connected to the injector, the status is UP/Down (not Down/Down). Is this because of the coax link between the injector and the radio or should it go "down" when nothing is connected to the injector's ethernet interface?

Q2 - If it does always show the line state as UP, is there any way to debug a link issue between the Power Injector on the remote (non-root bridge) and the remote switch (which I don't have access to)?

NOTE: Not sure if this helps.... if I do a "show power-injector" on the remote radio (no ethernet link), I get:
"Received zero AutoMIB packet from Power Injector, Check to see if CDP is disable
d on Fastethernet" repeating. No other entries. If I do the same command on a unit with a link (root bridge) I get information about "Power Injector Port 0 speed 100Mb/s duplex full link up enabled yes" with a bunch of stats. Similiar for "Power Injector Port 1". Power Injector Ports 2-4 as "down" and 5-6 as "disabled".

Q3 - Other than the 3 different patch cables they tried (all straight through) or a crossed cable (try tomorrow when they buy one), is there any other reason the port won't go Up/Up?

Cisco 1410 Bridge - Non-root bridge Spontaneous Reboots

Hello,

I have a pair of new Cisco 1410 bridges, running the 12.4(10b)JA, IOS, over a range of about 1 mile. I installed the bridge three weeks ago, it ran perfectly for a week, then the non-root bridge started spontaneously rebooting, between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. This is a full reboot, not just a loss of association.

At first I thought it might be a power issue, so I put it on a UPS. When the problem did not clear up I replaced the power injector and the power brick, but this was not the solution.

Each time I changed something, the problem would clear up for a time (30 minutes - 2 hours) then recur, if between the hours of 10 AM - and 4 PM.

Over the past week, a pattern has started to emerge. When it is cool and cloudy, no reboots. When it is sunny and warmer (this is a relative term since it's springtime in Michigan and it was snowing, but not sticking, yesterday), let's say over 40 degrees F, it reboots during the warmer part of the day, 10 AM - 4 PM.

Before climbing the tower to replace the radio, I am trying to decide if I have a failing radio, or if this may be like the temperature issue the 1400's had when they got too cold, just reversed?.
Any ideas on how I could test this?

Thanks,

Kevin

I have a total of 27 LAPs on my wireless network from 17 different remote locations. All are AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9, 25 are in H-REAP mode and 2 are in LOCAL mode. I never have any issues with the LOCAL mode LAPs, they never DEREGISTER from the Controller even if connectivity to the Controller is lost, it will automatically Discover the Controller and RE register. The H-REAP mode LAPs however will DEREGISTER when connectivity is lost and will try to RE register but will fail. Debug shows failure is due to... Max retransmissions reached on AP... followed by... apfSpamProcessStateChangeInSpamContext: Down LWAPP event for AP . But when I change the mode to LOCAL, it registers successfully. Why is that and what is the fix for it?

I have a remote site customer that is getting support calls saying that guest users cannot login to the wireless "guest" network. When they try to access it, the browser hangs up when trying to load the redirect page.

When they restart the controller, it begins working again. The WLC version is 5.0.148.0. Has anyone seen this issue? If not, what would be the best way to troubleshoot?

Thanks for any help.

Hi all

>I want to deploy 802.1x on my network.

1- Switches 3560 series with IOS 12.2(35)SE1

2- ACS 4.1

3- Windows Vista for Clients

>My questions are:

1- Is 802.1x support windows vista

2- How the client will be authenticated. Is there any software will be installed on the clients machine or the ACS

will pop up a window for the authentication. Also Where can I put the vlan in the ACS to be dropped on the port after authentication.

3- If I have VMPS and the ports are configured as dynamic (not access ), how can I solve this problem.

4- If the ACS radius server down. how the authenication will go. It can take from the switch local database.

5- what is the use of this command .....dot1x pae authenticator....

I appreciate any help. Please, I need this to be clear ASAP.

Thanks and Best Regards

Does anyone know what the codes mean between different versions of IOS?

For the 1130s, I have two versions:
12.3(8)JEA
12.4(3g)JA

I'm guessing that 12.4 does not have the 'E' feature 12.3 does. Anyone any idea what that might be?

we are having another building being acquired by our company, which is located less then a Km away from our current offices. With an visible eye contact between both lines, I was considering implementing Wifi connection between them. But what's the product I will be using, and what's the maximum bandwith I can achieve? I was more looking for something aroung a 1gb uplink...

Thanks
